About Dr. Crohn

After working all these years with couples and families dealing with the challenges and opportunities presented by change, my move from Northern to Southern California has been a big lesson in practicing and experiencing firsthand what I long have been preaching. All through my career, I have found myself working with people in transition. The kinds of issues my clients bring to my office inevitably have to do with change: preparation for marriage, dealing with the birth of a child, parenting struggles with children who have mysteriously transformed into adolescents, divorce, illness, or the death of loved ones. Each of these situations calls for adaptability and creativity in dealing with new and difficult emotional terrain.

I see my job as helping couples and families access their strengths to meet these developmental crises. I've written two books on couples, and I am on the faculty of a family medicine residency program affiliated with the UCLA Medical School. I have also consulted with private schools interested in creating “parenting communities.” My wife, Dr. Mindy Werner-Crohn, is a child and adolescent psychiatrist, and we sometimes collaborate in our work with children and families.
